On March 16, 2010, a jury rendered a verdict in favor of VirnetX, Inc., finding that Microsoft infringes eight claims of Patent Number 7,188,180 and three claims of Patent Number 6,502,135. The jury found willful infringement of all claims and found none of the claims invalid. Damages of $71,750,000 were awarded for the ‘135 Patent and $34,000,000 for the ‘180 Patent, for a total award of $105,750,000. The following day, VirnetX filed another lawsuit against Microsoft asserting the same two patents and alleging infringement by “products and services (including, but not limited to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2).”
